Emmick Family Plantation

Hello, and welcome to the Emmick Plantation House!

We look forward to hosting your wedding, family reunion, corporate event, or other celebration. Outdoor gatherings are hosted on the riverfront lawn and grounds, and our recently renovated rustic barn is available for indoor events.

The Emmick Plantation House was built in 1854 with bricks made on the property and remains one of the oldest homes in Hancock County.  It was at the Emmick property that Abraham Lincoln was apprehended for illegally ferrying people across the Ohio River (he was later acquitted, of course!).  The house remains a historic state marker #1914.

The home has been held in the Emmick family for nearly all of its existence and was renovated in the 1990′s with care by the late Retha Emmick Newell. Retha’s daughter, Leslie Emmick Kolar, is now devoted to maintaining the memory her mother, as well as the home Retha restored as a labor of love. All Emmick Plantation House productions are dedicated to preserving the history – and promoting the future – of Lewisport.
